What are the different ways I can donate?
  • DAF: We welcome contributions through Donor-Advised Funds.

  • By Mail: Checks payable to “Friends of the MFN” can be sent to: P.O. Box 128, Medford, MA 02155.
  • Via Venmo: Donations can be made through out charity Venmo account @MFNFriends

 

What is the "We Heart MFN Community Tree"?

It is a permanent donor installation at the Family Playspace honoring longtime Director Marie Cassidy and the legacy of the MFN. Any individual or business donation of $100 or more (cumulative for the fiscal year starting July 1, 2025) earns a place on the tree.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations to the Friends of the MFN are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. (Federal Tax ID: 03-0518665).

Why are you switching to Zeffy instead of Givebutter?

We have transitioned to Zeffy because it is a 100% free platform for nonprofits. They do not charge transaction or processing fees, ensuring 100% of your donation goes directly to MFN programs and staff.

I have a recurring donation on Givebutter—do I need to move it?

Existing recurring donations on Givebutter will continue to process as usual; no action is required. However, if you’d like to migrate to Zeffy so we receive 100% of your gift, please contact our Treasurer.

Mission & Funding

What is the Medford Family Network?

Since 1993, the Medford Family Network (MFN) has been a cornerstone of the community, operating as a free family support and parenting education program for all children (prenatal through age 8) and their caregivers who live or work in Medford.

The offices and playspace at the Purple Door at Medford High School (489 Winthrop St, Medford, MA, Room A105), our mission is to partner with families to provide the resources, referrals, and relationships that promote a healthy, loving family life. Events and programs are held all over the city, in over 30 locations.

All MFN programs are rooted in the “Five Protective Factors”:

      • Parental Resilience
      • Social Connections
      • Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development
      • Concrete Support in Times of Need
      • Social and Emotional Development
What is the difference between the MFN and the Friends of the MFN (FMFN)?

The MFN is the program providing direct services, support and playgroups to families in Medford. The Friends of the MFN (FMFN) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer board whose sole mission is to fundraise and provide the financial stability needed to ensure the MFN can continue to serve the community.

How is the MFN funded?

The MFN is a unique partnership. The City of Medford provides our physical home and administrative support, but historically, the MFN has never been a direct line item in the city’s operating budget. 100% of staff salaries and programming are funded by grants (such as Children’s Trust, ECC, and the Cummings Foundation).

Who should I contact to advocate for the MFN?

Your voice is our most powerful tool. We encourage you to reach out to Medford City Legislators to share what the MFN means to your family. We are in ongoing dialogue with the Mayor’s office and the School Department to secure a permanent role for the city in the MFN’s funding.
