Our Mission & Funding
The Medford Family Network has always thrived through a unique partnership of city support, federal grants, and community generosity.
The Friends of the Medford Family Network, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, has been the vital engine of support and resources that fuel the MFN mission for over 20 years.
As the MFN navigates a significant shift in federal grant support in 2026, transparency regarding our funding structure is more important than ever. Below is a breakdown of the vital roles each partner plays in sustaining our mission for the next generation.
The Friends of the MFN (FMFN)
An independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer board that provides essential supporter-funded resources to support the MFN’s needs. By donating to the Friends, you are directly investing in the enriched programming and care that make the MFN a home for Medford families, ensuring our mission remains vibrant and accessible to all.
Grant Programs
Historically the source of staff salaries and many community programs. This includes vital support from CFCE (EEC), and the Cummings Foundation. We are currently facing a 50% reduction from the loss of the Children’s Trust. Note that it is also increasingly difficult to secure grants that cover essential operating costs.
The City of Medford
An enduring partner providing our physical home and essential administrative support. Historically, the MFN has not been a direct line item in the City of Medford’s operating budget. We are actively working with city leadership to evolve this partnership and secure a permanent role for the city in the direct funding and long-term sustainability of the MFN.
